LPW adding knowledge, building confidence in the metal Additive Manufacturing industry

23 Nov, 2016

LPW Technology Ltd, the global market leader in developing, processing and supplying cutting-edge metal powder solutions for Additive Manufacturing (AM), has today taken delivery of a new TRUMPF TruPrint 1000 metal Additive Manufacturing machine. The first machine of its kind in the UK, this will enhance LPW’s impressive Additive Manufacturing R&D capabilities, centred at the internationally recognised Daresbury Laboratories in Cheshire, UK

Adding to the well-established metal powder expertise, Ian Brooks, LPW’s Applications Manager, commented “LPW is expanding its PowderLife products and solutions throughout the industrial AM process and this new machine enables us to accelerate not only novel alloy development, but also applications testing, process optimisation, powder degradation studies and R&D projects.

The future lies understanding data throughout the AM process from beginning to end, linking together all the processes and data that affect the powder and ultimately, reproducible build quality. Our PowderSolve software package, as part of PowderLife adds insight into this process. In conjunction with TRUMPF, we are looking to enhance our knowledge and specification of AM process parameters.”

How the powder is reused and monitoring its degradation within the AM process is key to the integrity of the final build. LPW is building up a new metal AM lab which will include a range of machines from different suppliers. We are delighted that the new TRUMPF TruPrint 1000 enables us to showcase and continue to develop PowderLife, the metal powder lifecycle management system that strictly controls risk and traceability for manufacturers.  This integrated suite of software, hardware, applications support, powder and part testing, enables the careful control of metal powders.

LPW and TRUMPF are working together to develop validated AM metal powder and process control solutions that will benefit industrial end-users of laser powder bed fusion AM machines.
