MULTI award winning LPW Technology are delighted to announce apprentice Callum Ward has been shortlisted for a prestigious ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award.
Runcorn based LPW are the global market leader in developing, manufacturing, and supplying cutting edge metal powder solutions for Additive Manufacturing (also referred to as 3D printing).
Callum, 20, joined the fast growing team in 2013 as a production operator and asked the company to support him through a three year apprenticeship at his local Wigan and Leigh College.
LPW are committed to delivering top tier apprenticeship programmes across the business and were delighted to offer Callum the chance to shine.
“To be in the running for this award is phenomenal news for Callum and the team,” said Managing Director and Founder Dr Phil Carroll, of the nomination for the Halton Business Awards.
“His nomination highlights the exciting career potential for talented, motivated and hardworking individuals. Callum always had great potential but his growing confidence, knowledge and work ethic are something I am very proud of.”
LPW work alongside high tech industries including the biomedical, aerospace and transportation sectors.
Quality of supply, testing, analysis and ongoing applications support has been critical to their ongoing success, alongside recruiting a talented local workforce.
LPW have a growing collection of accolades, recently winning a Manchester Evening News Business of the Year Award, and Dr Carroll was proud to be crowned Halton Chamber Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2015 Business Awards.
Dr Carroll says that as he continues to build the best team in 3D printing he enjoys nothing better than recognizing the talent, hard work and enthusiasm of individual staff members.
“We love what we do at LPW and want all our team to feel the same way. This means we offer time, resource and energy to apprentices, who may become future leaders of the company.
“I am lucky to have built an outstanding team who are highly motivated, determined and passionate. LPW offer young people the chance to flourish and Callum has seized this opportunity and made huge progress.”
To be shortlisted as a finalist in the Halton Business Awards, the apprentice had to convince judges of a real commitment and contribution to the team.
Callum, who was the company’s first apprentice, achieved this by taking responsibility for planning schedules, ensuring customer delivery dates are met and contributing to the stringent quality and safety procedures.
His hard work has also been rewarded with merit scores on his college work to date.
LPW has recognized Callum’s achievement by promoting him within his area of expertise and designing training to suit both his and the company’s developing needs.
The benefits of the apprenticeship programme to both LPW and Callum have resulted in the company expanding a thriving apprenticeship scheme.
LPW have since taken on a further five trainees in production, quality, health and safety and IT.
Callum said the nomination has been a huge confidence boost. “I am delighted to have been shortlisted for this award. It is a big highlight in what has been an exciting, challenging and rewarding career to date.
“There are huge opportunities at LPW and the apprenticeship scheme has given me a solid grounding to progress through the company.”
The winners will be announced on April 22nd at a glittering ceremony at the Holiday Inn, Runcorn.
